4th "Apple Blossom Run" 2011
Raas-Rasa (Italy), Sunday 1 May 2011
Unfortunately, this year's Blütenlauf in Südtirol (South Tyrol), a largely German-speaking province in northern Italy, has been cancelled. There are plans, however, to stage the event again in 2012.
The event comprises two challenging multi-terrain races (8.3km and 12.6km) around the Apfelhochplateau Natz-Schabs, an apple-growing plateau that rises above the town of Brixen (Italian: Bressanone).
The start and finish are in the village of Raas (Italian: Rasa), which is at an elevation of 830 metres. The route is very scenic and offers fine panoramic views.
Participants run through blossoming apple orchards, lovely woods, and pretty villages. Most of the course is on trails and dirt roads.
The Blütenlauf is a small event, held in a familiar and traditional alpine atmosphere. In 2010, the winners in the 21.6km race were South Tyrol's Alfred Mair (46:41) and Silke Schmitz of Germany (53:14).
