VIII. Wink Maraton és Félmaraton Futófesztivál 2011
Siófok (Hungary), Saturday 14 May 2011
The Wink Marathon, named after the sponsoring shoe company, takes place in the resort of Siófok on the southern shore of Central Europe's largest lake, Lake Balaton in Hungary.
Last year, after ongoing heavy rain had forced the organizers to postpone the Wink Marathon for two weeks, just about 100 athletes took part in the event, which offers various races for runners and inline skaters. Usually, there are more participants but it's a relatively small event anyway.
Entrants choose between the marathon (six laps), the half marathon (three laps), the half marathon relay (for teams of three runners), and the 7k run.
The route is a 7km-loop which is very flat and AIMS-certified. Participants run along the lakeside promenade and along Siófok's tree-lined avenues with its many elegant turn-of-the-century villas.
In 2010, the marathon winners were Imre Szabó (2:41:05) and Ágota Farkas (3:21:56). István Őri (1:13:22) and Katalin Farkas (1:31:09) celebrated victory in the half marathon.
