Graz Half Marathon 2011

This half marathon in Graz, Austria's second city, takes runners along both banks of the River Mur which bisects the city.

The route runs northwards through the city centre to the northern edge of Graz, and then back along the opposite river bank.

Competitors run on traffic-free roads, cycleways and gravel footpaths. Apart from two narrow bridges and a few underpasses the route is flat and fast.

The start/finish area is, unfortunately, not in Graz's beautiful historic centre but about 2.5km further south in an industrial part of the city, close to the prison and the slaughterhouse.

We find it very inconvenient that runners must pick up their bibs one day before the race. With 770 finishers last year the Graz Half Marathon is not a mega-event.

In 2010, the top finishers were Florian Prüller (1:08:54) and Maria Hochegger (1:26:08)
