12th Wien Energie Half Marathon 2011
Vienna (Austria), Sunday 20 March 2011
Half marathon runners will pass theVienna International Centre three times.
The Wien Energie Halbmarathon, named after Austria's largest energy provider, is the most popular of the seven half marathons that take place between January and March in Vienna.
Although the event charges some of the highest entry fees of all half marathons in our race guide, over 1300 runners took part in last year's 21k race, and over 500 in the 6.8k fun run.
In addition, the event offers a 3-person relay. Each team member runs 7 kilometres.
The half marathon consists of three laps around the Obere Alte Donau, a popular recreation area in the north-eastern part of Vienna. Formerly, the "Old Danube" was a section of the River Danube but nowadays it's a lake, separated from the river by a dam.
In 2010, the half marathon winners were Marius Bock (1:10:27) and Natalia Steiger (1:21:31).
