2nd "Bear Trail" 2011

Brentino Belluno (Italy), Sunday 17 July 2011

Trail running in northern Italy (Copyright © 2011 runinternational.eu)

Like the Trail Monte Baldo, the Trail dell'Orsa is staged on the eastern slopes of Monte Baldo, a mountain ridge located to the east of Lake Garda in northern Italy.

Participants choose between the 14km Orsa Minore ("Little Bear"), which climbs and descends 1,000 metres, and the very challenging 25km Orsa Maggiore ("Great Bear"; +1,900m/-1,900m).

Entrants to the 25k race must provide a medical certificate at registration. The 14k race, however, is open to all runners and hikers aged 18 years or over.

The start and the finish are in the village of Brentino, which is on the Brenner motorway between Verona and Trento. Situated in a steep valley, Brentino is a popular rock climbing destination.

Participants run (or hike) on dirt roads and trails through woodland, mountain pastures and vineyards. The route offers marvellous views of a spectacular rock scenery.

The event takes place at elevations below 1,000 metres but both routes are very challenging. Some of the trails are very technical, secured by cable.
