19. Bükki Hegyi Maraton 2011
Held in early July, the very hilly Bükk Mountain Marathon offers a number of multi-terrain races through the Bükk National Park in Hungary.
Participants can choose between the ultra marathon (50km), the marathon (42.3km), the half marathon (20.7km) or the fun run and walk (6.3km).
The densely wooded Bükk Hills are located in the north-eastern part of Hungary, not far from the border with Slovakia. With 20 peaks over 900 metres, over 1000 karst caves and lovely beech (bükk) forests, the national park is a popular destination for hikers and cyclists.
The start and the finish are at the Majális park on the eastern slopes of the Bükk Hills, on the edge of the city of Miskolc. The attractive little resort of Lillafüred is just over three kilometres away.
In 2010, the marathon winners were Csaba Németh (3:00:57) and Veronika Halász (4:18:42).
