4th Cross in Lipica 2011
Lipica (Slovenia), Sunday 20 February 2011
We heartily recommend this small and friendly low-key event featuring a beautiful setting.
The event offers cross-country races for all ages and abilities. Participants run on the pastures of the famous stud farm of Lipica, home to graceful Lipizzaner horses for more than 400 years.
Lipica is located on the Karst plateau in Slovenia's Primorska region, close to the border with Italy and just about 15 kilometres from the port of Trieste.
Competitors run several loops. The race distance depends on their age category:
- 300m-2km: children
- 4km: juniors (born 1992-1995)
- 6km: men (born 1965 and older); women (born 1991 and older)
- 8km: men (born 1966-1991)
The Kros v Lipici concludes a series of four cross-country running events in the Primorska region. Most runners use the races to test their shape, build up stamina, meet people and have fun.
In 2010, around 120 runners took part in the Lipica cross races, half of them children.
