The River Mura near Mursko Središće
This small running event in Croatia's northernmost town of Mursko Središće comprises a 10.3-kilometre road race and a 2.6-kilometre town run. Entry fees are very low, there are plenty of prizes, and all participants get a T-shirt, a medal and a meal after the race.
Mursko Središće is located on the southern bank of the River Mura, on the border with Slovenia. Hungary is just 10 kilometres away, Austria 45 kilometres. Within a radius of 20 kilometres you will find three thermal spas in three different countries - wonderful!
The area is unspectacular but very charming with rolling hills and vineyards to the west, low-lying fields to the east, and green dikes along the protected landscape of the Mura.
Starting and finishing at the football pitch near the river, the 10.3K race follows a flat out-and-back course along the country road that runs through the fields to the east of Mursko Središće.
In 2010, the top finishers were Josip Lacković of Croatia (35:38) and Hungary's Anett Torma (41:20).
