La Camignada poi Siè Refuge - "Walk around six Mountain Huts"
Auronzo di Cadore (Italy), Sunday 7 August 2011
La Camignada follows a spectacular 30km point-to-point trail route through the breathtaking Sexten Dolomites in Italy. Around 1000 runners and hikers take part in the event each year.
The route features approximately 1300m of ascent and 2200m of descent.
Participants pass the famous Three Lavaredo Peaks (Tre Cime/Drei Zinnen), alpine lakes, bizarre rock formations, and six mountain huts. The highest point on the course is at an elevation of over 2500m.
Start is at Lago di Misurina (1752m), located 14 kilometres up the road from the ski resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo. In 1956, the Olympic speed skating competitions were held on the lake. The finish is in the village of Auronzo di Cadore (864m), which is situated on a large reservoir.
There will be four drink stations on the course and one at the finish. The time limit is 10 hours. In 2010, the fastest finishers were Titta Scalet (2:43:40) and Stefania Satini (3:25:33).
