11th Mörbisch Running Day 2011

Just five days after the Leuchtturmlauf in Podersdorf, runners from eastern Austria and beyond will travel again to the Neusiedler See, a vast but very shallow lake, fringed by giant reed beds. Approximately three quarters of the lake's surface are in Austria, and one quarter in Hungary.

The Lauftag takes place in Mörbisch am See, a very pretty (and touristy) village on the western shore of the lake, just a stone's throw away from the Hungarian border.

The event comprises a half marathon, a 5k run, children's races, and a 3.8km nordic walking loop. The half marathon (on Saturday) can be combined with a 125km cycle marathon (on Sunday).

Competitors in the half marathon run four laps of a scenic course through vineyards close to the lake. The course is mostly flat (+5m/-5m each lap).

The 5k race consists of six flat and fast loops through Mörbisch.

In 2010, the half marathon winners were Franz Berger (1:20:01) and Ingrid Eichberger (1:29:19).
