12th Saint Anthony Marathon and Half Marathon 2011 - Padua
Padova (Italy), Sunday 17 April 2011
The start of the marathon is at the church in Campodarsego.
The Maratona Sant' Antonio is a flat and fast point-to-point road race through the Veneto region in northern Italy. The finish is in the attractive city of Padua (Italian: Padova).
In 2011, the race features a new course, which starts in the village of Campodarsego, located around 12 kilometres to the north of Padova's city centre.
The route is a single loop through villages and fields in the Graticolato Romano, an agricultural area that has been divided into a geometric pattern of squares since Roman times.
The finish line is on Padova's elliptic Prato della Valle, one of Europe's largest town squares. In 2010, the winners were Gilbert Chepkwoni (2:10:45) and Rael Kiyara (2:30:18), both of Kenya.
The event includes a half marathon, which starts in Camposampiero, 21 kilometres to the north of Padova. Participants run southward along the route which the preacher Anthony of Padua took on his last trip in the year 1231. He died on his way to Padova, aged 36.
