9. ‘From the Lake to the Mountain’ 2014

Vom See zum Berg takes runners "from the lake to the mountain".

Starting at the casino in Velden, a see-and-be-seen resort on the Wörthersee in Austria's state of Kärnten, competitors run 9.2km of a scenic uphill route which includes 518m of ascent.

The race is run entirely on traffic-free asphalt roads through lovely countryside and pretty alpine villages.

The finish line is at the ‘Alpengasthof Obersakoparnig’ restaurant, which sits at an elevation of 922m in the Ossiacher Tauern hill range.

From there, it's 1.5km back to the event centre in the village of Köstenberg. Shuttle buses take the runners home to Velden in the afternoon.
