Canazei (Italy), Sunday 21 July 2013
Only experienced mountain runners should aim to run the Dolomites Skyrace , a gruelling trail running race in the Dolomites in northern Italy.
The route is a 22-kilometre up-and-down loop which features 1750 metres of ascent and 1750 metres of descent.
The start and finish are in the ski and holiday resort of Canazei (1450m).
The highest point on the course is on the summit of Piz Boè (3152m), the highest peak of the 'Gruppo del Sella' massif.
Participants must carry a windbreaker jacket with them as the race takes place in a high-alpine environment.
The entry limit is 700 runners, and the race may well fill up early again.
Last year, 649 runners finished the Dolomites Skyrace. Kilian Jornet of Spain (2:01:52) and Emelie Forsberg of Sweden (2:26:00) both set new course records.
The time limit to complete the race is 4 hours 15 minutes.
