The Leopoldilauf in Vienna is held in honour of Saint Leopold III, patron saint of Vienna and of Austria, whose feast day is on November 15th.

Three races are available: 7km (one lap), 14km (two laps) and 21.1km (three laps). The third lap is a bit longer than the first two laps.

Set in the wooded Prater, the largest public park in Vienna, the event offers a great opportunity to set a PB over the half marathon distance as the course is totally flat, traffic-free and AIMS-certified. The time limit to finish the race is 2hr 30min.

Approximately five kilometres of each lap are run on the main avenue through the park, the Prater Hauptallee.

Each lap features a U-turn at the Wiener Riesenrad (pictured) which stands in the ‘Wurstelprater’ amusement park.

After the race, participants can take a shower at the premises of the LCC Wien athletic club in the Ernst-Happel-Stadion, Austria's national stadium.

Approximately 650 athletes took part in the Leopoldilauf last year.
