This Berglauf in Austria's state of Styria takes runners up to the summit of the Zirbitzkogel (2397m), the highest peak of the Seetaler Alpen (Seetal Alps).

Only 150 entries are allowed, so the race might be sold out before closing date.

Starting in the small village of Sankt Anna am Lavantegg (1291m), which sits on the eastern slopes of the mountain, competitors run 11.2 kilometres of a very challenging uphill route which includes about 1100 metres of elevation gain.

The first five kilometres are run on forest trails. The forest slowly clears at the Waldheimhütte mountain hut (1614m). The second half of the race is run on trails and gravel roads through alpine tundra.

After the race, you'll have to walk back to the Waldheimhütte from where a bus takes you to the award ceremony and pasta party in Sankt Anna.

The event also offers races for children and nordic walkers.
