Sponsored by a Polish oil company, the Orlen Warsaw Marathon has quickly become one of Central Europe's top road running events.

In 2014, almost 6,000 runners finished the 42.2km marathon, around 9,000 completed the 10km race, and approximately 10,000 took part in the ‘Charity Walkathon’, a 4.6km-long non-competitive fun run.

Tadese Tola of Ethiopia set an impressive course record of 2hr 6min 55sec for the marathon. Martin Mukule of Kenya was the fastest 10k finisher (29min 3sec).

Both races start and finish at Poland's National Stadium (pictured).

The fun run begins on Castle Square in Warsaw's historic city centre and ends, like the competitive races, at the National Stadium.

All routes are mostly flat and fast. The time limit to complete the course is 6hr for the marathon and 1hr 40min for the 10k. There is no time limit (and no timekeeping) for the fun run.
