The Kokos Trail race features a challenging and outstandingly scenic 15km route around the village of Basovizza which sits on the thinly-populated Karst Plateau above the port of Trieste in the north-east of Italy.

The course includes about 500 metres of ascent (and the same of descent).

Starting and finishing at Basovizza's football pitch at about 380 metres above sea level, competitors run almost entirely on trails and gravel roads through woods and grassland and along a disused railway track in the spectacular Val Rosandra gorge.

The highest point on the course is at an elevation of 672 metres on Monte Cocusso (Slovene: Kokoš), a wooded hill on the border with Slovenia.

In addition to the 15km race the event offers a non-competitive 8km fun run.
