33rd Three Hearts Marathon 2013

The Maraton treh src attracts a crowd of over 4000 runners to the small mineral-water-producing town of Radenci, located in a low-lying agricultural region in the north-east of Slovenia, near the border with Austria.

The event offers a 5.5km and a 10km run, a half marathon, and a full marathon.

The start and finish are at Zdravilišče Radenci, a spa resort with thermal indoor and outdoor pools, and an enticing place to relax after the race.

The full marathon is two laps of an AIMS-certified and rather flat course. Therefore, many athletes have tried to run a fast marathon time in Radenci. This has proven to be very difficult, and finishing times have often been relatively slow.

This year, the marathon and the half marathon will be started 30 minutes earlier (at 9am) but nevertheless it can get very warm in the region in mid-May, and there's hardly any shade on the course.

Running two laps around large sunbaked fields on a broad flat plain can be a mentally challenging task, and most participants opt to run the half marathon or the 10k.

In 2012, 259 runners completed the marathon. The winners were Slovenia's Mitja Kosovelj (2:22:09) and Marija Vrajić of Croatia (2:57:33). The time limit to complete the first lap of the marathon is 2 hours 15 minutes.
