Gorski maraton štirih občin — "Mountain Marathon of Four Municipalities"
Petrovo brdo (Slovenia), Saturday 18 June 2011
The gm4o is a highly challenging mountain marathon race, held in a remote corner of the Julian Alps in Slovenia.
The route is 37.5km long. Overall, it climbs 2500m and drops 2800m in elevation.
Competitors run up and down two mountains, mostly on forest and mountain trails through beautiful countryside.
The race begins in the village of Petrovo brdo (at an elevation of 800 metres) and ends about 3.5km further down the valley in the village of Podbrdo (520m).
The highest point on the course is the ‘Čez suho’ saddle at 1760 metres.
Last year's winners were Matjaž Mikloša (3:39:47) and Valerija Mrak (4:14:33). The course was 2.5 kilometres shorter.
In 2011, the event will incorporate the ‘World Long Distance Mountain Running Challenge’. For this special occasion, the entry fees have been raised by 10 to 20 euros.
